Phoenix food events

Tis the season, here in Phoenix! The weather is gorgeous, and there are several large food festivals going on around the Valley. I posted this late and missed a few, but I wanted to bring light to the rest. The following list is from the fabulous Edible Phoenix site. You can come by and visit me at the West of Western event this weekend where I'll be tabling for Community Food Connections, which organizes our awesome Public Market and develops ways to provide healthy food options for low-income households. Woot!

March 15--The Art of Local Food12:30 p.m. Whiteman Hall, Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 N. Central Avenue, PhoenixMeet the founders of Edible Communities as they present stunning images of local food communities around the country and talk about their experiences in helping to save local agriculture.

March 15-16--4th Annual West of Western Culinary Festival (www.westofwestern.com)12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix The Festival features more than 50 of Arizona’s top chefs for a weekend of fine food, education, and entertainment in central Phoenix. Tickets are $75 in advance or $85 at the door for food and wine; $65 in advance or $77 at the door for full day food only. Special museum discounts available with purchase.

March 28-30--Arizona Wine Festival at Tempe Festival of the Arts (www.tempefestivalofthearts.com)10 am to dusk7th Street, west of Mill Avenue, TempeSeven Arizona wine growers will be on hand for tastings and selling the fruits of the vine by the bottle or by the case. Jazz entertainment will be provided to accompany the wines. Tasting is $10 for 6 tastings, with a commemorative glass. Participants must be 21 years of age.

April 7--Heavy Medal Challenge to Benefit C-CAP (www.blacktie-arizona.com)6:30 p.m. Elements at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa, 5700 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise ValleyCareers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) presents the first culinary challenge between Arizona's Iron Chef America winners: Beau MacMillan and Mark Tarbell. Tara Hitchcock, Channel 3, will host the cooking challenge while you enjoy a dinner, with wine, prepared by the chefs. Tickets are $175. See www.blacktie-arizona.com or call (623) 594-0117.

April 26--Wine, Women & Jazz (www.azwp.org)4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Arizona Culinary Institute, 10585 N 116th St, Scottsdale. Features sumptuous hors d'oeuvres, fine wine and great jazz. ACI is once again hosting this popular fundraiser with jazz vocalists Margo Reed, Delphine Cortez and Blaise Lantana. A silent auction will feature a variety of items. Event tickets are $55 per person ($65 at the door, if available).
