When she told our chef-instructor what she was allergic to, she said, "Flour, wheat, and gluten." I never really thought about it. I love rye ... just seeing the word makes me want a Reuben sandwich. Alas, all I have is lentil soup ... but at least it's fantastic lentil soup!Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00020986406730749423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1772151665349754050.post-63449357200878518252007-12-19T10:46:00.000-07:002007-12-19T10:46:00.000-07:00There are a fair amount of people with similar rea...There are a fair amount of people with similar reactions to peanuts. Not much peanut dust gets airborne on a plane, though. I can't imagine life with a flour allergy. There are just so many tasty things made with flour. I assume that's wheat flour exclusively? Rye is a better bread flour, in my opinion. But then, I'm Jewish, so there's a cultural bias there.Michael Marshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02452030026125279631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1772151665349754050.post-5056127434136193922007-12-19T09:08:00.000-07:002007-12-19T09:08:00.000-07:00I know people who can't touch flour because of the...I know people who can't touch flour because of their allergies--they almost instantly break out in a rash.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00020986406730749423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1772151665349754050.post-53969957061845787122007-12-19T07:45:00.000-07:002007-12-19T07:45:00.000-07:00I suspect the actual risk is less than what it's m...I suspect the actual risk is less than what it's made out to be. Most people with peanut allergies can be in the same room as peanuts with no real problem. Peanuts have been served on airplanes for so many years that any real problem probably would have arisen long ago. It's most likely a CYA maneuver on the part of the airlines.Michael Marshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02452030026125279631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1772151665349754050.post-55566016520337764332007-12-18T21:52:00.000-07:002007-12-18T21:52:00.000-07:00Mike, good grief--how do they find the courage to ...Mike, good grief--how do they find the courage to ever go anywhere? =(Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00020986406730749423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1772151665349754050.post-43529119655774774202007-12-17T16:51:00.000-07:002007-12-17T16:51:00.000-07:00I know that recently a bunch of places have determ...I know that recently a bunch of places have determined that even being in the same room as peanuts was hazardous for people who are allergic. Maybe that hasn't be borne out, or maybe too many people complained about the pretzels.Mike Marshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15730365232944097577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1772151665349754050.post-28130547329622561172007-12-17T15:18:00.000-07:002007-12-17T15:18:00.000-07:00They had, for a little while. I don't know if they have a replacement snack, but the last time I was on a Southwest flight (last year), they gave me pretzel sticks.

I'll keep an eye out for your new post!Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00020986406730749423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1772151665349754050.post-47677842260912226622007-12-17T10:45:00.000-07:002007-12-17T10:45:00.000-07:00Huh. I thought they'd all switched to pretzels, because of allergies.

I should have a post next week with a series of photos.
